About the Role
CIM seeks a seasoned and high-performing investment professional to focus on the firm’s fintech credit investment activities in Mexico and Latin America. The ideal candidate will be based in Mexico City and will predominantly concentrate on CIM’s portfolio in Mexico. The role will report to the firm’s Partner overseeing CIM’s emerging markets investment team. CIM is among the leading providers of financing to the fintech community in Mexico. Commensurate with the growth of CIM’s investment and business activities in Mexico, this leadership position will strive to build out CIM’s long-term presence in Mexico over time and explore business development opportunities.
The position will involve periodic travel to our global CIM office locations, including New York, San Francisco and Bogota, as well as additional regional travel within Latin America. A passion for impact at scale, strong analytical skills, and comfort with a high degree of autonomy in a collaborative, small but global organization are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Investments:
- Sourcing: Build upon a strong sourcing referral network to further identify and pursue a pipeline of new fintech credit investment opportunities in Mexico.
- Execution: Proactively explore and implement various structuring solutions that fit local market and product needs; conduct thorough due diligence, research and analysis to evaluate and execute on strategic investment opportunities.
- Market & Regulatory Analysis and Compliance: Proactively construct new investment theses by analyzing and assessing new markets and fintech verticals; stay up-to-date on industry developments, monitor competitive and regulatory landscapes in Mexico; communicate investment strategies and decisions to senior management and stakeholders.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Manage the monitoring process on a portfolio of existing investments with periodic analytical reviews; develop perspective on companies, conduct inspections, synthesize and communicate findings and create detailed investment memos to make recommendations/propose course of action to the global investment team.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in other CIM office locations on investments, investor reporting, risk reporting and technology; work directly with CIM’s Latin American investment team on various aspects of the investment and portfolio management processes.
- Brand Positioning: Amplify CIM’s brand, presence, and influence in Mexico by deepening CIM’s networks and curating high impact events/workshops; represent the firm in fintech/ credit/ investments ecosystem events in Mexico.
- Business Development: build-out existing and new strategic partnerships, as well as setting up CIM’s own initiatives as it relates to potential new investment structures, vehicles or local sources of capital.
- Team Building: Build a team over time as required by the investment activities of the firm in Mexico. This will involve hiring, managing and coaching members of the local team and requires a blend of earned respect, experience, a willingness to lead people and a commitment to the organization’s culture.
Qualifications
Experience
- Investment: 10-15 years of experience working on alternative lending, asset-backed lending, investment structuring and private credit in Mexico, with a track record in portfolio management, financial analysis and risk management principles.
- Experience in working with large data sets, data bases and data warehouses a plus.
- Fintech: Intimate experience engaging with the Fintech ecosystem with emphasis on capital markets and detailed knowledge of the Mexican fintech lending and payment verticals; hands-on operational experience working in a strategic management role in a fintech in Mexico; strong network within the fintech ecosystem, founder community as well as other investors, specifically VC and PE investors.
Skills
- Possess a deep understanding of financial markets and trends to inform investment decisions. Enthusiasm for technology, entrepreneurship and impact investing.
- Intimate familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to investment management and fundraising activities in Mexico.
- Passionate about financial inclusion, relentlessly inquisitive about identifying emerging fintech trends, and constructively obsessed about assessing the best emerging teams and companies.
- Excellent financial modeling, structuring, analytical skill and experience in negotiating. CFA a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, the ability to articulate conviction clearly and effectively in team discussions and sharing your opinion.
- Excited to work in a small, fluid, ambitious, and highly collaborative global team with a high degree of autonomy, self-motivation, and discipline.
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative mindset, self-starter, and an exceptional work ethic.

- Languages: Native Spanish and fluent English is required.
- Proficiency in SQL or experience managing relational databases or data warehouses in AWS Cloud viewed favorably.
